    Alfredo Sauce with Cream Cheese

My easy alfredo sauce recipe with cream cheese packs all of the classic flavors you expect in a traditional alfredo sauce but requires none of the fuss. The secret is using cream cheese, which binds the sauce together while adding an extra layer of creaminess.

Whether you're draping it over fettuccine, or using it as a base for your chicken alfredo, this creamy sauce will surely impress when paired with any pasta recipe. Let's dive into creating a rich alfredo sauce that's as easy to make as it is delicious to eat!

    Ingredients & Substitutions

    • Butter
    • Fresh Garlic cloves - You can substitute ¼ teaspoon garlic powder.
    • Cream cheese - This is the secret ingredient for an outrageously cream alfredo sauce.
    • Heavy whipping cream - You can also make alfredo sauce without heavy cream by using whole milk and eight ounces of cream cheese, rather than four.
    • Fresh Parmesan cheese - Grated or shredded Parmesan cheese is fine. Substitute mozzarella if you need to make alfredo sauce without Parmesan cheese.
    • Fresh ground black pepper
    • Fresh ground nutmeg - A dash of Italian seasoning can be added if desired.

    How to make it

Make this cream cheese alfredo sauce recipe by adding minced garlic and butter to a sauce pan set over medium heat on your stovetop. Once the butter has melted, mix in the cream cheese.

Once the cream cheese has melted and is starting to combine with the butter, pour in the heavy cream and mix to form a sauce. Then whisk in the Parmesan cheese until the cheese melts.

Add black pepper and nutmeg, then bring the sauce to a simmer to thicken. Serve this cream alfredo sauce over pasta noodles.

    Storing Leftovers

Leftover alfredo sauce with cream cheese can be stored in a refrigerated airtight container for up to one week. Leftovers are easily reheated in the microwave or in a saucepan on the stovetop.

    Equipment

    • Saucepan

    Ingredients

    • ½ cup butter
    • 2 cloves garlic minced
    • 4 ounces cream cheese
    • 2 cups heavy cream
    • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
    • ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg

    Instructions

    • Melt butter in a saucepan set over medium heat along with minced garlic.
    • Stir in the cream cheese until melted then add heavy cream and continue to stir until the butter, cream cheese, and heavy cream combine into a smooth sauce.
    • Mix in Parmesan cheese and stir until it has fully incorporated into a smooth cheese sauce. Then add black pepper and nutmeg.
    • Simmer briefly to thicken to your desired consistency and serve over fettuccine pasta noodles.

    Notes

If the sauce gets too thick, it can be thinned out with additional heavy cream, or a dribble of water. If it is too thin, it just needs to simmer longer.
